Richard Langton

Richard is a Brain Injury Solicitor at Coulthursts and is nationally recognised with over 30 years of experience fighting for justice on behalf of clients who have suffered life-changing injuries. As a senior Solicitor at Coulthursts, Richard specialises in complex personal injury claims, with a particular focus on acquired brain injury, catastrophic injury, and cases involving children and young adults.

Richard is renowned for his expertise in serious brain injury compensation claims and is dedicated to securing the highest level of rehabilitation, care, and financial support for his clients and their families. His approach ensures that those affected by traumatic brain injuries (TBI) receive the best possible chance at regaining independence.

In addition to his legal work, Richard is a passionate campaigner and advocate for brain injury support services. He currently serves as Chair of Headway Birmingham and Solihull, one of the UK’s largest Headway branches, after over 20 years as a trustee. His voluntary work has been instrumental in supporting individuals and families living with the consequences of acquired brain injuries.

Richard’s legal career includes a successful track record in high-value brain injury settlements, with numerous multi-million-pound compensation claims secured for clients. He has handled several nationally reported cases and was shortlisted for Personal Injury Lawyer of the Year in 2010 and has an impressive nationwide reputation recorded in a leading lawyers’ directory due to his involvement in high profile cases which have been reported in the national media.

A former President and honorary lifetime member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), Richard is also a member of the Forum of Complex Injury Solicitors. Richard has spoken at APIL conferences and Headway events about the Mental Capacity Act, legal decision-making for people with an acquired brain injury, and the role of deputies. Richard has acted as a Court of Protection appointed Deputy in numerous cases.

Beyond the courtroom, Richard has actively campaigned for reform in road safety laws, particularly around vision testing and licensing. He has engaged with Members of Parliament to push for updated legislation to protect vulnerable road users and prevent avoidable accidents caused by drivers with impaired eyesight.
